Rachel Wong’s journey began with selling 20-cent ice pops to support her struggling family. Today, she leads Marunda Private Limited—a regional engineering force serving the U.S. Navy, Allied Navies, and commercial sectors, defying industry norms and breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Founded in 1985, Marunda has evolved from a small operation in Singapore into a trusted provider of naval and marine engineering services across the Indo-Pacific. The company is an approved vendor for major government agencies, including Singapore’s PUB and PSA, as well as U.S. entities like the US Navy and Military Sealift Command (MSC).
With operations in Singapore, Philippines and Guam, Marunda have a strong presence in the Indo- Pacific region, Marunda has established itself as the leading afloat expeditionary repair and maintenance service provider, offering responsive, high-quality, fully integrated naval engineering solutions that meet the mission requirements of our defence and commercial clients. Our expertise encompasses machinery and electrical services, painting and preservation, insulation and lagging, drainage and disposal as well as temporary services. Holding various local, regional and international standards and accreditations, we maintain the highest levels of quality and safety.Rachel built Marunda from scratch—without a background in engineering—navigating heavy debts and steep learning curves. Today, she’s a respected industry figure and ecosystem builder.
