A well-constituted board fosters more complete discussions, leading to better decisions and enhanced business performance,ā€ is a starting point in the introduction to the Code of Corporate Governance in Singapore. Directors with diverse backgrounds bring diversity of thought and experiences to the boardā€™s deliberations. A diverse board avoids groupthink and helps ensure that the board conducts itself appropriately. Companies have the transformative power to change and contribute to a more open, diverse and inclusive society.

The Singapore Board Diversity Index was developed in partnership between Singapore Institute of Directors and Willis Towers Watson, with support from BoardAgender. This inaugural index analyses all SGX-listed companies across eight dimensions of diversity: age, gender, tenure, board independence, expertise, among them, and highlights those companies that exemplify aspects of board diversity.
