AmCham launched their latest U.S.-China Trade War Survey results earlier today. The survey presented a overview of the perception of AmCham member companies’ with regard to the ongoing trade war and how it has impacted their business strategies over the past nine months, and going forth.

AmCham’s knowledge partner for this survey was Bain and Company. They analysed the results of the survey, and presented the data at the launch event. The event was particularly useful for American businesses in the region as they were able to better understand the implications for their future strategic plans and are now in a stronger position to make changes to their investment and manufacturing plans if necessary. As such, the event was well attended by leaders of the Singapore business community, but also by Government representatives and media correspondents.

With the first AmCham survey on this topic being conducted at the start of the trade war in September, today’s survey launch recognized the changes in business sentiment over the duration of the trade war thus far. American businesses with APAC headquarters in Singapore, of which there are many, showed a keen interest in the survey results, as it can aid them in exploring the possibility of adjusting their business operations and sourcing within the region.

Following the presentation by Gerry Mattios, Expert Vice President from Bain and Company, the panel included Daphne Au, AmCham Governor and Regional Head of APAC Regulatory, Government Affairs & Public Policy, AIG APAC Holdings; Dr Deborah Elms, Founder and Executive Director, Asian Trade Centre; Nathan Chow, Senior Vice President, Senior Economist Group Research, DBS Bank; and Frank Troise, CEO and Co-Founder, SoHo Capital LLC. Dwight Hutchins, AmCham Board Chairman and Asia Pacific Managing Director, Strategy Consulting – Consumer, Accenture Pte Ltd, moderated a lively discussion on the implications of the findings and the views about possible outcomes of the trade war. The panelists also fielded questions from the audience.
