Dear AmCham Members,
Happy Fourth of July! I wantedĀ toĀ thank you on thisĀ specialĀ occasion for your support of the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.Ā
This yearāsĀ Independence DayĀ is particularly meaningful for me as an immigrant to theĀ U.S.Ā who isĀ now living in Singapore and intoĀ myĀ first year of leadingĀ AmCham Singapore.Ā ItāsĀ also special because I have the privilege of experiencingĀ elections inĀ both my home country, the U.S., as well asĀ my adopted country of Singapore.
As children in the U.S., we all learned the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
No matter whatās happeningĀ in theĀ U.S. or around theĀ world,Ā theĀ Fourth of July is when we AmericansĀ shouldĀ feel proud of all the good things our country has done, acknowledge mistakes of the past, and pledge to rightĀ wrongs. The ChargĆ© d’AffairesĀ of the U.S. Embassy in Singapore, Rafik Mansour,Ā said it best in hisĀ Independence DayĀ message:
We honor our democratic way of life and our love of country. We honor our service members who preserve our freedom and our frontline workers who selflessly serve their communities. We honor our nationās rich diversity and spirit of possibility.
While AmCham Singapore has only been in existence for 47 of the 244 years since the U.S. declared independence, we continue to actively promote the business success of American companies and firms in Singapore that have strong associations with the U.S. I am confident that our community will thrive as along as we support one another through these tough times.
