Dear AmCham Members,
Happy Fourth of July! I wanted to thank you on this special occasion for your support of the American Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.
This year’s Independence Day is particularly meaningful for me as an immigrant to the U.S. who is now living in Singapore and into my first year of leading AmCham Singapore. It’s also special because I have the privilege of experiencing elections in both my home country, the U.S., as well as my adopted country of Singapore.
As children in the U.S., we all learned the Pledge of Allegiance:
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
No matter what’s happening in the U.S. or around the world, the Fourth of July is when we Americans should feel proud of all the good things our country has done, acknowledge mistakes of the past, and pledge to right wrongs. The Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Singapore, Rafik Mansour, said it best in his Independence Day message:
We honor our democratic way of life and our love of country. We honor our service members who preserve our freedom and our frontline workers who selflessly serve their communities. We honor our nation’s rich diversity and spirit of possibility.
While AmCham Singapore has only been in existence for 47 of the 244 years since the U.S. declared independence, we continue to actively promote the business success of American companies and firms in Singapore that have strong associations with the U.S. I am confident that our community will thrive as along as we support one another through these tough times.
The AmCham Singapore team is here to help. We look forward to hearing from you.
Have a wonderful weekend,
