The National Wages Council (NWC) has released the NWC 2021/2022 Guidelines.
The focus last year was on helping employers to implement necessary wage cuts and appropriate cost-saving measures to save jobs. With the economy and labour market gradually recovering, the NWC recommends employers that have recovered or are recovering to ease the exceptional wage policies put in place earlier.
COVID-19 has underscored the importance of greater resilience in our wage systems. The NWC therefore encourages all employers to implement the Flexible Wage System. To support employers in this process, the NWC has published a FWS guidebook (as attached). Employers can also approach tripartite partners and Tripartite Alliance for Fair & Progressive Employment Practices for advice.
From this year onwards, the NWC will set out annual guidance on the range of Progressive Wage growth for lower-wage workers. The NWC’s recommendations this year seek to ensure meaningful wage growth for LWWs, while recognizing that different sectors are at different stages of economic recovery.
