AMCHAM ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The AmCham endowment scholarship fund was established in March 2004 when the AmCham Board of Governors launched a year-long capital campaign to support the then-fairly new Singapore Management University (SMU) which was modelled after the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. AmCham member companies provided a gift of $400,000 to SMU which was matched by the Singapore Government making the total endowment $800,000. Our endowment scholarship is a permanent fund that retains its value in perpetuity at the university. From 2004 – 2018, the income earned on the principal gift has provided a full scholarship for students to attend SMU.

In 2018, AmCham together with SMU, launched the SMU Global Innovation Immersion Award (GIIA). Under this program, AmCham awards up to 6 scholarships annually to SMU students to participate in a summer internship under the Global Innovation Immersion program with a start-up in the San Francisco Bay Area or Boulder, Colorado. Students have the opportunity to participate in a 3-month overseas internship with high-growth innovative American companies, develop future-ready skills and expand their students’ global entrepreneurial network. After returning from their internships, students are invited to form meaningful business connections with AmCham leaders and member companies, and learn from industry leaders. AmCham hopes that this program will develop and groom Singapore’s next generation of business leaders who will continue to build economic ties with the American business community.

AmCham is continually adding to the endowment through honorariums that are given as a token of appreciation for the speakers at our events. These donations are made in their name.
