Moody's
Established in 2002, The Moody’s Foundation directs Moody’s corporate philanthropy to organizations aligned with our focus areas, which contribute to stronger communities – and a brighter future – for people around the world. We seek to build a world where more people have access to opportunity and where everyone has the resources to grow and thrive. We’ve thus aligned our core business priorities to our Community Impact strategy, with a focus on supporting underserved communities while identifying new and innovative ways to leverage social capital.

Through our focus area of empowering small businesses, we are tackling social inequality by empowering entrepreneurs across the globe to grow their small businesses and uplift their local communities, as small businesses are more likely to have weaker access to markets, information, credit and networking opportunities than large business owners. In Singapore, we partnered WeConnect International and the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network to empower small business owners in the community.
Moody’s Community Impact team also engages employees through various initiatives to foster a sense of purpose, pride and belonging at Moody’s. Our initiatives this year included volunteering, pro bono programmes, non-profit board service, dollars for doers and matching gift programmes. In addition, each year in June during our TeamUp® Month of Service, employees across the organization give back to the community by volunteering their time. This year, our employees in Singapore helped clean the Marina Reservoir area, befriended seniors at a senior care centre, prepared meals at a food charity, and assisted a social enterprise in solving a business problem.

Kemin
In 2021, due to the safe management restriction brought about by the COVID situation, we need to change our approach in CSR effort but still strive to support the community around us. Below are examples of our CSR activities.

1. World Vision X Kemin: Kemin partnered with World Vision, to build an energy efficient (for sustainability) water facilities for children in Mongolia. Kemin recognized that we need to help the vulnerable groups to have access to the basic human needs for survival.
2. Donation to Children Cancer Foundation: Kemin had reached out to Children Cancer Foundation with corporate donations. Their beneficiaries’ age ranges from new-born baby to teens and the organization operates solely based on individuals and corporate donations. Kemin decided to support CCF in view that they also provide Counselling and therapeutic play for the beneficiaries which we believe is important but neglected aspects of cancer treatments. The fact that CCF also focuses on mental wellbeing of the beneficiaries is in line with Kemin’s direction that mental wellbeing is important within the organization.
3. Donation to HCA Hospice: Kemin also reached out to Hospice for donation. Patients in last stage of their lives got to participate in events and activities as part of the Day Hospice Services, and all these services are available to the patients free-of-charge. Kemin is aligned with Hospice’s vision that dignity and joy should be preserved for all including those terminally ill patients.
4. Collaboration with Key Business Partner: Kemin collaborated with our key distributor (Lautan Luas) in Indonesia to build school in rural areas. We believe that it is important that we collaborate with key business partner outside normal business.

Herbalife
Herbalife Nutrition is a global nutrition company which supports the Herbalife Nutrition Foundation (HNF) through its corporate social responsibility efforts. Created in 1994 by Herbalife Nutrition Founder, Mark Hughes (1956-2000), HNF is a global non-profit foundation dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world. We envision a world where every child has equal access to healthy nutrition.

HNF funds grants to charitable organizations though its flagship program – Casa Herbalife Nutrition by providing children with the nourishment, care, and education they need to reach their full potential. Today we provide millions of dollars in funding to 167 orphanages, hospitals, schools and organizations in more than 59 countries. In 2021 alone, we served more than 216,000 children and their communities.
HNF has been partnering with a local non-profit organization – Children’s Wishing Well (CWW), in helping children and youths live healthily and have access to good nutrition by participating in two programs – Fresh gRoceries in Every Student’s Home (FRESH) and Hot Lunch.

Under the FRESH Program, our in-house nutritionist will conduct a pre-session briefing which includes tips on reading nutrition labels, and the kind of healthy food they should select. Volunteers will then be paired up with children from low-income families to shop for what they really like and need, within a budget of $30 per child. Through this program, the children will learn about nutrition, budgeting, and decision-making – skills which will have a broader, long-term impact on their lives.

COVID-19 has impacted different strata of society unequally. Many low-income families with children are greatly affected by the pandemic, such as reduced income or loss of employment. CWW has extended their help to as many children and their families as possible during this challenging period. One of which is the Hot Lunch program. CWW provided cooked lunch for takeaway during the circuit breaker period and dine-in during centre operation hours. This is to ensure that no disadvantaged child goes hungry, and they have at least one healthy meal each day.
Hasbro
At Hasbro, As a global organisation, Hasbro runs a global annual event – Global Day of Joy to give back to the community and make a positive impact by supporting children in need. Last year, Hasbro Singapore has extended this to a week long event – Global Week of Joy.

Hasbro embarked on 3 key CSR events, which were in partnership with EPWorth, a Social Service Agency that helps at-risk children and youths from needy and disadvantaged families; wherein employees contributed time to conduct a storytelling, arts and craft and terrarium workshop sessions to children. Aside from the CSR events, we have also orgainsed a fundraising campaign – Brian Goldner Literacy Fund, which is aimed at helping students from disadvantaged families, particularly those who have been severely impacted by COVID-19. With this scholarship, students were able to receive timely intervention without adding to their family’s financial burden. Through this, we have managed to raise over $13,000 – allowing us to exceed the goal of $11,500.
FedEx
At FedEx, our mission is to connect the world responsibly and resourcefully. CSR is a key part of our commitment, as we leverage our global footprint and operations to give back to society. Through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, FedEx has continued its work as an essential service provider by delivering mission-critical shipments safely and reliably to communities within the region. Through our extensive network, we have transported nearly 14,000 COVID-19 humanitarian aid shipments and critical supplies like pharmaceuticals, personal protective equipment (PPE), and COVID-19 vaccines across the world.

Additionally, we continue to reinforce our commitment to giving back to the community by nurturing entrepreneurs and business leaders of tomorrow. In collaboration with Junior Achievement (JA) Asia Pacific, FedEx hosts the annual FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge, an initiative that fosters entrepreneurship and international business acumen in aspiring students across Asia Pacific. As part of our global community engagement program FedEx Cares, we have also invested in various community outreach initiatives – consistent with the FedEx Cares 50 by 50 goal to positively impact 50 million people around the world by our 50th anniversary in 2023. Dow

Environmental protection took center stage for Dow in 2021 amongst other contribution projects including support towards the autism community and STEM education.

In June 2021, Dow was privileged to be part of the team that launched Singapore’s shoe recycling ecosystem, recognizing shoe waste as a permanent waste stream that can be repurposed into sports infrastructures. This also helped divert waste away from the landfill and aligning with the Singapore Green Plan. A target to recycle 170,000 pairs of used shoes annually had collected over 169,000 pairs (equivalent to 47 metric tons) as at April 2022, which, when recycled, becomes 7.5km of running track. A strong belief for a sustainable future for Singapore, collaboration among like-minded value chain partners and an open mindset of the general public brought about the success of this project.

Dow’s signature #PullingOurWeight clean up program to divert waste, specifically plastic waste away from the environment took a creative turn in its fourth year from land to the waters. Twenty-four Dow volunteers kayaked the Jurong Lake Gardens reservoir in November and picked up more than 80kg trash.

Our Singapore team have extended into delivering Care package and distributed it at the MWC recreation Club on March 10th, 2022 for our Migrant worker brothers consisting of snacks and daily necessities like bathroom essential and items to workers who are required to stay in to help relief the burden of the pandemic.

One of our objectives at HP Singapore Social Impact Committee for 2021 was to accelerate digital equity and to enable better learning outcomes to connect local communities to greater economic and social opportunities. We achieved this by leveraging on technology-enabled education, skill-building trainings and collaborating with non-profit organisations such as Life Community Services Society (LCSS), to help children and families from low-income and/or vulnerable backgrounds.

The intent of HP’s partnership with LCSS was to widen under-privileged primary school students’ participation in the field of computer science through coding, nurturing their problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity in the process. HP volunteers taught and mentored close to 100 students throughout the year, introducing the fundamentals of website design through writing HTML code. By the end of each of the virtual workshops, students were able to create their first website with a theme based on sustainability.

Looking ahead, we will be introducing more workshops to be able to reach out to more beneficiaries. We are excited about the potential of this partnership and how this will bridge the digital divide and develop skills essential for youths of the future.

Google.org, Google’s philanthropy, brings the best of Google to help solve some of humanity’s biggest challenges combining funding, in-kind products and technical expertise to support underserved communities and provide opportunity for everyone. We engage nonprofits, social enterprises and civic entities who make a significant impact on the communities they represent, and whose work has the potential to produce meaningful change.

In APAC, we are focused on helping nonprofits to solve issues around sustainability, economic recovery and advancement and education in the digital world. We’re supporting Mandai Nature with nature-based solutions in Southeast Asia, as well as AVPN to run a $3M Sustainability Seed fund to help nonprofits scale-up innovative tech solutions that address pressing environmental challenges in the region. At a time when vulnerable small businesses and households are experiencing profound economic shock, we’re supporting Asia Foundation to help SMEs and job seekers gain access to opportunities, and expertise. With more time spent on the Internet, we’re also helping ASEAN Foundation to upskill underserved groups including persons-with-disabilities, elderly, youth and more across Southeast Asia. Stay safe online and become more media literate.
